JEDDAH — A Jeddah District Court judge ordered a mechanical engineer to work for 90 hours at the local municipality of in the city, after he destroyed some street signs on purpose. The court asked him to fix the broken signs and serve the community. The municipality director has been asked to write a report to the court after the engineer completes his 90 hours of service. The report should indicate clearly that the engineer complied with the verdict. Mutlaq Al-Fagham, a lawyer, said alternative sentences can bring about positive results to society. Instead of sending a person to prison for vandalism, the court had asked the convicted to serve the community. He added that serving the community is better than spending time in prison.
