RIYADH – The foreign wife of a Saudi citizen and foreign husband of a Saudi woman as well as their children are entitled to have the benefits of social insurance, according to a senior government official.

Abdul Aziz Al-Habdan, Assistant Governor of General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) for Insurance Affairs, said that there won’t be any differentiation between Saudi and foreign spouses in enjoying allowances and benefits under the social insurance scheme.

“Husband of a Saudi woman, whether he is a Saudi or foreigner, and their children can take advantage of all the benefits under the GOSI scheme and vice versa.

“In the event of the death of the Saudi woman policy holder, who married to a foreigner, her husband and children are entitled to benefit from her pension and all other GOSI allowances,” he said, adding that similar is the case with a deceased Saudi policyholder who married a non-Saudi woman.

Al-Habdan said that in the event of the death of a Saudi man or woman policyholder, all their family members, whether they are Saudis or non-Saudis, will benefit from the scheme. They will get the whole amount if their number is three or more. If the number of inheritors is  two, then they get only 75 percent of the allowances and in case the beneficiary is one, he will get only 50 percent. The minimum monthly GOSI allowance for a single family member will be not less than SR396.75 and for three or more members, the minimum amount would be not less than SR1,983.75.

According to Al-Habdan, the beneficiaries of the deceased Saudi GOSI pensioner are widow of policyholder, the deceased Saudi woman’s husband who is incapable of work or his age is above 60, children up to the age of 21, and up to 26 if they are studying, daughters until their marriage, those under the custodianship of the deceased policyholder such as his father, mother, brothers and sisters, grandfather and grandmother as well as children of his deceased son.

The beneficiary will get marriage allowance equal to 18 times of their usual GOSI allowance and after this, he or she will not be entitled to the insurance allowance. In case of divorce or death of husband, the woman will get again the insurance allowance.

Under the new scheme introduced recently by the Ministry of Labor, expatriate workers become beneficiaries of GOSI.

Sulaiman Al-Quwaiz, governor of GOSI, said that the date on which a non-Saudi worker comes to Saudi Arabia, or the date which his service is transferred to another employer will be considered the date of his registration with the professional hazards division of GOSI.
