DUBAI — A number of students from Emirates International Schools — EIS-Jumeriah and EIS-Meadows — have been offered provisional places at top international universities (subject to results).



Both schools recently held graduation ceremonies for the Year 13 students which was attended by the school-leavers and their families along with Mohammed Al Habtoor, vice chairman and CEO, Al Habtoor Group and chairman of the board (EIS); and Paul Rayner, advisor to the chairman.



Emirates International School-Jumeriah (EISchool-Jumeirah) had 85 students in the graduating class, representing 29 nationalities, many of whom have been offered their first choice universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cornell, Imperial College, London School of Economics, Kings College, McGill University, University of Toronto, and University of California-Berkeley.



Phillip Burgess, high school Principal, EISchool-Jumeirah said: “The graduating class of 2013 is distinguished by many outstanding students. “Over 10 students are predicted to achieve over 40 points out of a total of 45 in the May 2013 IB Diploma Programme Examinations.”



David Hicks, high school principal, EIS-Meadows said: “Twelve students from the Meadows campus are expected to attend universities that are ranked in the top 25 internationally,  including the University of California-Berkeley, University of Michigan, University of Toronto, University College London (UCL), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Austin.



“Seventeen students in total are expected to attend universities ranked in top 50. That represents 30 percent of the cohort expected to attend some of the world’s best universities.”



He added: “We continue to build on our success each year. We are very proud of our schools and the achievements of students.”



Amna Al Habtoor, director of the schools, said: “I would like to congratulate all our graduates at EIS-Jumeirah and EIS-Meadows.



“We are immensely proud that many of them have been offered places at some of the world’s leading universities.”



She added: “On behalf of Khalaf Al Habtoor, chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”



EIS-Jumeirah, which was established in Dubai in 1991, was the first school in Dubai authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.



It caters to more than 1,800 students. EIS-Meadows, which opened in 2005, now provides education to more than 1,500 students. — SG
