JEDDAH — According to a recent research, 67 percent of people do not practice any sort of hygiene. Another study shows that a large number of people do not wash their hands after using toilets. GROHE, one of the leading German manufacturers of sanitary fittings, revealed this unsettling account during a media roundtable in Hyatt Park Hotel on Monday.

GROHE collaborated with Dr. Mohamed Kashmar, cosmetic dermatologist at Cosmoderm Clinics Jeddah and Hazmieh Medical Center in Beirut, to discuss personal hygiene. He said a recent study shows that 80 percent of communicable diseases are transferred by touch.

He explained that ignoring personal hygiene can result in the spread of diseases and contaminations such as skin infections, rash and other health concerns like bacteria and viruses. He added that intertrigo and erythrasma are some of the diseases that adults may suffer from if they neglect their personal hygiene.

During the discussion, it was mentioned that personal hygiene may reduce also the chances of getting diseases from public toilet seats.
