JEDDAH — Seven members of a family perished when the car they were traveling in overturned on Yanbu Road near Badr in Madinah province Tuesday night.

Six of the victims, who included four women and two children, died on the spot. Three other people — a man, woman and child – were injured and were rushed to hospital by Saudi Red Crescent Authority rescue teams, said Khalid Al Sahli, spokesman for the authority.

One of the injured passengers died in hospital later, taking the death toll to seven, sources told Saudi Gazette.

A critically injured passenger was transferred to hospital by a passing Saudi citizen before the arrival of the ambulances, he added.

All the victims were Saudi nationals and from the same family.

This is the second major road accident in Madinah province in recent days. More than 10 South Asian laborers died when the bus taking them to their work site was involved in a collision.
