JUBAIL — Twenty seven students of outgoing class XII secured seats in the most prestigious engineering colleges in India under DASA scheme launched for non-resident Indians. Out of these 16 students secured seats through CIWG (Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries) category, according to an International Indian School, Jubail, press release.
The school also claimed that eight students passed JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) MAINS-2017 and will now appear for JEE ADVANCE-2017.
The Career Guidance and Competitive Exam Head of IIS Jubail, Mohammed Nagur Meera provided the details of the entry of students into these India’s most sought after engineering colleges called NITs. As per the details provided by him there are two ways that the students can secure seats in NITs.
They are:
1) JoSAA (Joint seat Allocation Authority): Every student who intends to join in NITs through JoSAA has to qualify and obtain a rank in JEE MAINS (a national level entrance exam conducted every year on first Sunday of April by the CBSE). This highly competitive examination is conducted in three subjects math, physics and chemistry. Each subject carries 30 questions of four marks each. Maximum time allowed per each subject is one hour.
Every qualified student will be given all India rank as well as concerned state rank. For NRIs, state mentioned in passport is the concerned state for the seat allotment. Through JoSAA, fee in NITs is Rs.1,25,000 per annum.
2) DASA: Under this scheme a total 15% of seats in NITs and other central funded institutions are available for NRI students. Every student who intends to join in NITs through DASA has to qualify in an exam called SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) level II. It is an exam in three subjects math, physics and chemistry. Each subject carries 800 marks. Qualifying mark is 75% on aggregate i.e., total 1,800 out of 2,400.
In this scheme, Ministry of HRD, Government of India has divided the students into two categories. They are
a) CIWG: In this category, students have to pay only Rs.1,25,000 per annum. (It is same as that for local students of India)
b) Non-CIWG: This category is meant for all NRIs including GCC country NRIs. In this category, students have to pay $8000 per annum.
SAT level II score is the only criteria in seat allocation for CIWG and Non-CIWG categories.
IIS Jubail provides orientation to grade XI and XII students to appear in the SAT Level-II exam every year and this year was “phenomenal as the school has made a big impact by securing 16 seats under CIWG and 11 seats under Non-CIWG, in all 27 seats under DASA, said the Principal and HOI of IIS Jubail, Dr. Syed Hameed. He attributed the great success to the hardworking students, competent staff, cooperative parents and supportive School Managing Committee. — SG
