RIYADH – Twenty one prominent poets from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Pakistan enthralled hundreds of poetry lovers at a historic grand Eid Milan Mushaira in honor of renowned poetess from Pakistan Dr. Imrana Mushtaq. The event was organized by Riyadh-based international literary organization Halqa-e-Fikr-O-Funn (HFF).
Pakistani envoy Khan Hasham Bin Saddique was the chief guest at the Mushaira, while member of Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council (OPAC) and a poetry enthusiast Mian Imran Jajvi hosted the Mushaira in coordination with the HFF. Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Bajwa presided over the proceedings of the Mushaira, and other honorary guests sparkled on stage, where internationally-known poet Suhail Saqib and Madar-e-Dabistan-Lahore Poetess Dr. Shahnaz Muzammil held sway.
Deputy Secretary General of HFF and poetess Dr. Hina Ambreen Tariq and Secretary General and poet Waqar N. Wamiq jointly conducted the proceedings that formally began with the soulful recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Hafiz Billal Khan followed by a presentation of a beautiful Naat in the expressive voice of Abid Shammon Chaand, secretary information HFF.
Chief Coordinator HFF Dr. Tariq Aziz welcomed dignitaries, poets and guests to the Mushaira. “Fikr-o-Funn has been serving poetry and literature for the last 35 years and has set significant standards. Today, we are happy to have the finest poets among us from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Pakistan, especially our special guest of honor Dr. Imrana Mushtaq and honorary guests Dr. Shahnaz Muzammil and Suhail Saqib. I am also glad to have Ambassador Khan Hasham Bin Saddique, and we salute him for his dedication in promoting literary activities,” Aziz said.
The Mushaira began in full swing and remained fast-paced with all poets providing various tempo to the evening with their verse, versatality and verve. The perfect Mushaira atmosphere was created by these fabulous poets as they shared their delicate poetry in the form of Ghazal and Nazm.

Dr. Imrana presented her selection of Ghazals and Nazms, while also reciting her famous Punjabi poem “Tandoor” on special requests of the audience and she was rewarded with thunderous applause following the rendition of “Tandoor”.
Ambassador Khan Hasham bin Saddique highly applauded the efforts of HFF, and said, “It’s my first Mushaira since 1973, and I am very much impressed with the standard of the poetry presented by the talented poets in this Mushaira. Pakistan has produced many prolific poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmed Faraz and we are proud of our national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who inspired the world with his poetry.
“I extend my congratulations to Halqa -e-Fikr-O-Funn for organizing such a successful Mushaira where we experienced the poetry at its best. Pakistan Embassy will help HFF bring poets from Pakistan for any upcoming Mushaira event in Riyadh.”
Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Bajwa too said the Mushaira as the best and successful one. “I am glad to experience the interactive participation and response between the poets and their audience. This shows the success of Mushaira, and I congratulate all the poets for their high standard of poetry,” Bajwa said.
Halqa e Fikr-O-Funn awarded all the participating poets of the Mushaira with the honorary shields that were presented to them by the ambassador. Special memento of the Mushaira were presented to the ambassador and Dr. Imrana Mushtaq by HFF.
