JEDDAH — In the past ten years a large number of Saudi rappers have tried to make their presence felt among the locals and in the music industry.

“X Team” is a team of new rappers who are vying to make a place for themselves here by uploading their music on various social media platforms.  Abdulaziz Kheder, 18, has just graduated from high school and is one of the team members. He is also the cousin of Quissi.

He said: “We are a group of three. I am the audio engineer and the team leader, Turki a.k.a DaPeL.X is the song writer, and Abdulrahman who has strong vocals.”

Kheder started rapping in 2005 as part of his hobby. He said: “I use to listen to a lot of rappers, and in 2005 I started rapping myself. It was very difficult in the beginning because I didn’t have a team nor proper equipments. I then created a team with my cousin, and now fortunately today we have all the equipments.”

He also said that all the members love rapping, and they want to spread a valuable message to the society through their songs.

“We are producing Islamic songs in a rap style,” he said, adding that they also have a studio in of the member’s house. The group members also said that only some of their family members support them, and still a lot of obstacles stand in their way.

“We need support. It is difficult to find a company that could help and support you, especially if you are not that well known.

“I tried to reach one of the companies and I am still trying, but I have failed until now,” he said.
