RIYADH — As the Eid Al-Adha break is well under way, hotel managers in Egypt are reporting swift business from Saudi vacationers, saying that the numbers have shown a marked increase from previous years. The Egyptian pound’s devaluation is one of the reasons why many Saudi tourists are finding Egypt attractive destination during this Eid Al Adha.

Fayez, 25, is staying in Cairo for two weeks, his 5th visit to the country. “I love it because it has a special aura and atmosphere. Egyptians are light hearted and welcoming,” he said.

“However, I can say that the reason behind the increased number of Saudis visiting Egypt is because of the currency difference that benefits us with the devaluation of the pound. SR1 is almost equivalent to 5 Egyptian pounds. I can come to Egypt and enjoy my time here even on a tight budget. That is why, in my opinion, you see lots of teenagers and young adults visiting Egypt," he said.

Maha came to Cairo with her family. She agreed with Fayez that the devaluation of the Egyptian pound has made the country attractive for many in the Gulf region.

“There are a combination of factors; Egypt is close to Saudi Arabia, there are no language barriers and the country has lots of cultural destinations, nature attractions, artistic shows, theater and of course there’s the Nile River and ancient sites such as the Pyramids. Egypt has something to offer for everyone," she explained.

Bader, another Saudi tourist who frequents Cairo during the holidays, said Egypt offers an authentic experience like no other. “I visit Egypt for a change of atmosphere; it is full of authentic experiences and Egyptians are lively people,” he said.
