MANILA — The GlobalPort Batang Pier brought down the TNT KaTropa Texters with a stunning 119-112 victory in the PBA Governors’ Cup Friday night.

Stanley Pringle scored a career-high 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting to lead GlobalPort to its third win in six games, boosting the Batang Pier’s playoff bid. The Fil-Am guard also collected eight boards, four assists, and two steals in 40 minutes.

Murphy Holloway also played a key role in the win with 24 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks in 44 minutes.

But it was the GlobalPort duo of Sean Anthony and Mike Cortez who actually delivered the killer blows against TNT in the endgame, with Anthony scoring 10 of his 21 markers and Cortez scoring 7 of his 11 points in the final quarter.

GlobalPort won even though star player Terrence Romeo was limited to just 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting in less than 23 minutes off the bench.

Glen Rice Jr. exploded for 39 points for TNT along with 13 boards, five assists, and four steals in 42 minutes. However, the son of the NBA All-star player, had 11 turnovers that contributed to TNT’s defeat, the team’s third loss in seven games.

GlobalPort led by as much as 15 points, 109-94, with less than 5 minutes left. But the Texters refused to surrender, slashing the Batang Pier’s lead to just five points, 114-109, before finally accepting defeat.

Blackwater 118, Kia 97

The Blackwater Elite annihilated the Kia Picanto, 118-97, making history by scoring their biggest points in a quarter (40) and in a half (70).

In their most explosive game yet, Blackwater led by as much as 49 points, 86-37, early in the third quarter.

The Elite also made a franchise-record 19 of 39 three-point shot attempts for a scorching 49 percent from beyond the arc.

Former NBA player Bill Walker once again showed all-around brilliance, scoring a team-high 25 points on top of 11 rebounds and seven assists to lift Blackwater to its fourth victory in eight games.

Guard Mike DiGregorio and 6’8” center Poy Erram added 16 points apiece as the Elite bounced back from a loss to TNT KaTropa last Wednesday. Fully recovered from an ACL injury, Erram dominated the paint, nailing 7 of 13 shot attempts along with 14 boards, four blocks, and one steal in 27 minutes. DiGregorio was just as impressive with nine boards and two steals against his former team.

Nino Canaleta chipped in 13 points, including four three-pointers, the same number of triples drilled by Walker.

Ael Banal, the top pick in the last regular draft, also made waves for Blackwater, tallying 12 points, including two triples in just a little over 12 minutes of play.

Blackwater could get even better with the acquisition of Chris Ellis and Dave Marcelo in a two-on-two player trade with the Barangay Ginebra Kings, who in return got the services of forwards Art dela Cruz and Raymond Aguilar. Ellis and Marcelo will see action for Blackwater when the Elite clash with the Kings next Friday.

Blackwater’s blowout victory spoiled the debut of new Kia import Geron Johnson, who led the Picanto with 28 points, six assists, and four rebounds, against nine turnovers.

Kia coach Chris Gavina was furious after the humiliating loss, which kept his squad winless in eight games and stuck at the bottom of the standings. He bowed to crack down hard on players who he said showed little effort and commitment to support their team.

Meanwhile, the San Miguel Beermen replaced import Wendell McKines with Terik Bridgeman after SMB’s 100-103 loss to NLEX last Sunday.

Game Saturday: San Miguel Beermen (3-2) vs. Alaska Aces (0-6).
