JEDDAH — International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) boys won the CBSE XXVII Custer Meet Under-19 Badminton Championship, which was held at IIS Dammam recently.

The trio of Jadeer Hassan, Joel Therattil Joy and Mohammed Ranees Basheer, who represented IISJ, reached the final by winning all the round matches without dropping a set.

In the semifinals, IISJ defeated IIS Riyadh and New Middle East School Riyadh (NMES) downed hosts IISD.

In the opening match of the final, Jadeer Hassan of IISJ lost to Salas Siril of NMES 12-15, 14-15. However, IISJ pair of Jadeer Hassan and Joel Therattil Joy rallied to win the doubles against Salas and Faizal Shah 15-13, 2-15, 4-15 and tied the match.

In the crucial reverse singles, Joel crushed Faizal in straight sets (15-7, 15-10) to clinch the trophy for IISJ.

Being the winner the IISJ squad will represent Saudi Arabia in the CBSE National Badminton Championship in Rajasthan, India, from Oct. 22-28. — SG
