RIYADH — King Saud Medical City (KSMC) has recently made an agreement for collaboration with the Alfred Hospital to establish a level one trauma center in KSMC.

Once the trauma center is established, it will be considered as the first trauma center of its kind in the Kingdom. Alfred Hospital is known to be one of the leaders in trauma and critical care on globally and this collaboration will add great value to the health services in the Kingdom with regard to trauma and critical care.

KSMC conducted an online virtual multidisciplinary forum with Alfred Hospital to present two complicated trauma cases. Dr. Haitham Al-Falah, CEO at KSMC, said “one case involved an extensive lung contusion with a flail chest successfully treated with ECMO while the other case involved a TEVAR and Carotico-Vertebral and Carotico-Subclavian bypass for Traumatic Aortic Transection in a patient with an aberrant aortic arch origin in the left vertebral artery”.

Dr. Al-Falah said these virtual meetings were very rewarding and highly productive especially when it comes to sharing and exchanging experiences with colleagues in a multidisciplinary forum from another part of the world. — SG
