‘Challenge—AMPS Quiz 2017’ goes to IISD students

JUBAIL — The Association of Malayali Professionals in Saudi Arabia (AMPS) organized its annual Quiz Competition, 2017, at Marafiq Beach Camp recently in line with its motto that in this fast evolving era all-round development and knowledge in different fields hold the key to success.

Dedicated persons and devoted teams organized “The Challenge – AMPS Quiz 2017”. The event attracted more than 300 students studying in Grade 8-12 from International Indian School-Dammam (IISD), International Indian School-Jubail (IIS-Jubail), Al-Khozama International Indian School-Dammam and Dunes International School-Khobar. The participants were grouped into 80 teams and they competed with each other vigorously to reach the final round of the competition.

Eight teams reached the final round and vied with each other in eight interesting and exciting rounds including buzzer, audio, video and rapidfire rounds. The quiz questions were stimulating and entertaining which also kept the audience involved and engrossed.

IISD team of Shahzin Shaji, Ashly Varghese and Andrea Shaju Raphael kept their cool and emerged victorious and bagged the rolling trophy. IIS-Jubail, represented by Zeeshan Ilyas, Shafique Rahman and Naveed Syed, won the second place, and the third prize was bagged by IIS- Jubail’s Roshan Rajesh, Jovan Thomas and Sarthak Patel.

The show was conducted by Quizmasters Suresh Kumar and Krishna Kumar Raghupathy. The event saw the participation of the audience and the three hours of the magical mind-game ended on a high note. Hundreds of guests answered questions in the segments meant for them and won prizes.

Ajith Gangadharan conducted the preliminary written quiz during which he had posed 40 objective questions to short-list contestants for the final round. Ever since AMPS Quiz Competition first started in 2004, it has become an annual feature for students, teachers and quiz enthusiasts in the Eastern Province. Its organizer which has Indian professionals working in the leading multinational and Saudi corporations, have won accolades within and outside the Indian community for arranging such a top quality educational event.

The popularity of event impressed several top executives of companies who invited the organizers to conduct similar competitions for their employees and other international and local schools.

In his welcome address, AMPS President Murali Krishnan reiterated his organization’s commitment to provide platforms to discover and nurture the hidden talents of students. “The purpose of education is to instill the values of our culture, tolerance and coexistence so that they can contribute positively to the society,” he said.

The administrative activities of event were spearheaded by Event Chairman Subair N.M. The stage set-up and high-tech quiz and buzzer devices were arranged by Krishna Das, Jayan Varier, Safare Mohammed, Satish Chandra Kurup, Sudheer Prabhakaran, Hrishikesh Murali, Anith Kumar, Soorej Jayaram, Ravi Nair and Karthik Menon.

The quiz was engineered by Seju Davis, Oommen Thomas, Jayakumar, Shibu Xavier, Paul Rudolf, Sneha Suresh, Ambika Ajith, and Keerthi Murali Krishnan. Registration Coordinator Joju Mathew and his team ably managed the registration of more than 300 students and AMPS members.

Prominent among those who were present were IIS-Jubail Principal Dr. Syed Hameed, IIS-Jubail Management Committee Chairman Noushad, prominent writer and columnist P.J.J Antony and Ms. Saadia Siddiqui of IIS, Jubail.
