JEDDAH — A man was accused of marrying his daughter off to two suitors at the same time.

The Public Prosecution is looking into the case after two men filed lawsuits against the 50-year-old father claiming that he had married his daughter off to both of them.

The woman was married to one of the men and they lived together for two months. Then the man had to move to a suburban area in Jeddah governorate on work-related matters with the prospect of leaving his wife alone at home. The couple agreed that the woman would stay with her parents until her husband’s return.

During the period of the husband’s absence, the woman’s father allegedly married her off to another man who had also proposed to her. The second husband was not aware that the woman was previously married but he later found out from his bride that she was still married to a relative of hers.

When the first husband learned about the woman’s remarriage even though he had not divorced her, he got in touch with his wife’s new husband to find out the truth. His worries were confirmed. His wife had married another man when he was still her husband.

Both men sued the father for not respecting the covenant of marriage. The father claimed that his daughter was divorced but her first husband failed to issue a divorce document due to financial problems, but the man denied the allegations.

The prosecution looked into both marriage contracts and found out that they were concluded within a short duration and the mandatory period of separation after divorce was not observed.
