DHAHRAN — It was a moment of pride, excitement and glory for Saudi Arabia when its flag flew high once again at the 22nd UCMAS Abacus & Mental Arithmetic International Competition that was held at the Picturesque Genting International Convention Centre in Malaysia on Dec. 10-11.
A contingent of 14 children from the UCMAS Abacus Center Jubail /Dammam had participated in the competition this year and all of them returned with trophies in six different categories. The star highlight among the winners was Nitish Pagatur Krishna who was declared Grand Champion in ‘B’ Category of the competition.
While competing with more than 3,400 participants from 40 countries, 2 students won 1st position, 8 students secured 2nd position and 3 students were placed in the third position.
The trophies were won by Fehmida Shakeer, Deshna Kannan, who got first place in two different categories. Shelna Shammy Joseph, Devishri Kanagarajan Shivraj, Aafrah Araj Khan, Aafrin Shah Anwarshah, Kapil Kumar Mahakalkar, Advita Sonawane, Yashwini Krishna Murthy, Shlok Vijay Shelar secured 2nd places in different categories. Ummemun Mazher Hussain, Tanvi Vijay Shelar and Abubakr Siddique got third place trophies.
This was the eighth time that the Jubail-Dammam Center participated in the International competition and brought laurels.
Center Director Mrs. Samina Mazher Husain was very proud with the grand success of her students once again. She said, “Winning trophies while competing against such a large number of contestants was a great achievement and once again demonstrated the skills and talents of the students of the center.”
She showered praises for the dedication of course instructors in preparing the students for the competition and also stated: “It was the motivation to win, the collective hard work of the entire team and the belief to succeed which bought us this grand success.”
Abacus is a time-tested tool of doing calculations at lightning speed without using any calculators. The most important aspect of the UCMAS Abacus is recognized worldwide for its proven results, with the most obvious being the learner’s fantastic mental ability and speedy calculation. — SG
