JEDDAH — Seven women from a family were killed and five others, including two children, injured in a grisly accident in Jazan late Thursday night.
The accident occurred on Madaya-Sawarma Road when the car the family was traveling crashed into the rear of a truck with no taillights.
Witnesses said the family members were on their way to a wedding.
Lt. Col. Yahya Al-Qahtani, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Jazan, said the Civil Defense units rushed to the scene after receiving a call about the accident and took out the bodies and the injured from the mangled wreckage of the cars. He said the Saudi Red Crescent volunteers transferred the injured to a nearby hospital.
This was the second horrific accident in the region in as many weeks.
In a terrific collision involving a car and truck in Sabya governorate, a Saudi mother and her six children died.
