Blue Star B, ACC B move into semis

JEDDAH — Saphire Restaurant Blue Star B and TSS ACC B shared two goals and points to make it into the semifinals in Division A of the 18th SIFF-Eastea Champions League Football Tournament at the Ministry of Education Stadium here recently.

With this draw, Blue Star topped the group with 7 points, followed by ACC B which had tallied 5 points. Both the teams made it a lively affair, choosing an attacking game with ACC showing more purpose.

But quite against the run of play Blue Star, which had an accent on defense, took the lead through Mohammed Anas. However, ACC, which combined well as a team and made better moves with their midfielders doing a good job, restored parity through Junaid.

Mohammed Riaz of ACC was adjudged the Player of the Match.

In the first match of Division B, Newcastle FC and Yound Men’s Friends Junior drew goalless. Ubaid of Newcastle was selected as the Player of the Match.

In the second encounter in the same division, ACC A defeated Rehab FC Yanbu 2-1. It was an interesting match in which both the teams attacked well and fought for a win. ACC A, which exhibited better teamwork, prevailed at last. Suhail and Sanu scored for ACC, while Kamaluddin reduced the margin for Yanbu. Bhawuddin of ACC A won the Player of the Match award.

The third match in this division between Yas FC and Blue Star A ended in a goalless draw. Jamsheed of Blue Star was selected as the Player of the Match.

Earlier, Youth India FC defeated FC Quwaisa 2-1 and qualified for the semifinals on Division C. Mohammed Rafeeq and Fawad Ahmed scored for Youth India. Quwaisa’s goal was scored by Mujeed Rahman. Goalkeeper Imtiaz Ahmed of Youth India FC won the Player of the Match award. — SG
