Filipino miner killed in rock fall at Mahd Al-Dahab

JEDDAH — A Filipino worker was killed and another injured during a rock fall at Jabl Manjum gold mine in Mahd Al-Dahab Friday evening.

According to sources, the injured worker receiving treatment in Mahd Al-Dahab Hospital was out of danger. The body of the other worker was kept at the hospital’s morgue.

A large number of Filipinos work in the gold mines in Mahd Al-Dahab in Madinah province.

Mahd Al-Dahab is one of the oldest gold mining sites in the Kingdom. Ma’aden Gold and Base Metals Company (MGBM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ma’aden, undertakes mining operations in the region.

The company operates six gold mines in Saudi Arabia. It is also developing a new gold mine in the Central Arabian Gold Region (CAGR) and is carrying out extensive explorations for gold and base metal deposits in several parts of the country.
