JEDDAH — Two women escaped from the Women Hospitality Home in Jeddah, taking the number of women to flee from the facility in the past three years to at least 10.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development reported the incident to the police, who are currently searching for the missing women.

Jeddah National Human Rights Society reported that an inmate had previously filed a complaint against the home reporting a number of violations. The society has been investigating the reports. Reacting to the escape incident, social activists demanded a transparent program to protect the inmates housed at the center.

The protection home accommodates women who have been released from prison after completing their sentence but whose families have refused to take them back home.

The activists demanded a thorough investigation into the escape by the inmates, which has become a recurring incident.

In previous incidents of escape, eight inmates had run away. One inmate of the home was murdered by her brother two years ago. He shot her four times with the intention of killing her while she was at work.
