DUBAI — Dubai and Sharjah residents can say goodbye to the nasty Sharjah-Dubai traffic by the end of 2018.

The UAE’s Minister of Infrastructure and Development, Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Belhaif Al-Nuaimi, said that several projects are in the works aiming to eliminate current traffic jams.

One such project is Al-Budaiya Bridge, stretching 4 km at a whopping cost of $54.452 million, which equates to Dh200 million.

Nuaimi said that the project is 75 percent complete and is set to open in August, reported The National.

Nuaimi pointed out that a dedicated truck lane will be added on Emirates Road to avoid jams resulting from parking on the side of the road during ban hours, and that parking lots for trucks will be allocated on several locations on both sides of Emirates Bypass.

Meanwhile, in line with government’s 2021 plan, there are ongoing talks about adding a fourth highway to complement Al-Ittihad Road, Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, added Nuaimi. — Al Arabiya English
