March 28, 2018

FOR the third year in a row, Crowne Plaza Jeddah Hotel joined millions of people from all over the world to take part in the Earth Hour by turning off the lights to raise awareness about climate change.

The hotel held Earth Hour on Saturday March 24, at 8:30 pm local time. This noble international effort was carried out within the framework of the hotel’s social responsibility program for one hour.

A series of energy saving actions were taken during the Earth Hour, including the extinguishing of external lights and the lighting of signs and the extinguishing of unnecessary interior lights for an hour. Candles were lit; beverages and desserts served to hotel’s guests who choose participate in the event.

The hotel staff also participated in this event by sharing ideas to preserve the environment and publish photos on social media channels.

"We are delighted to be part of this major global initiative through a small initiative made from our side by turn off the lights and raise awareness among hotel guests and employees about the need to protect our environment," said RafiqIzhiman, general manager of Crowne Plaza Jeddah and Western Region manager of IHG. "Individuals and companies can make a difference by taking simple measures".

Earth Hour 2018 focuses on Earth's climate change, including 7,000 cities and 15 countries, with a digital reach of more than 200 million people, and is witnessing increasing interest, especially after the 21st United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Marrakech.

The World Environmental Event has been organized annually by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) since 2007 to raise awareness of the threat posed by global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions. Earth Hour, launched by the Global Environment Fund, is Earth's largest initiative in human history. — Sg
