MAKKAH — The regional water laboratory located in Jeddah serves more than 6 million people in 16 cities and governorates.

Mohammad Al-Ghamdi, head of the laboratory, said, “The laboratory supervises the quality of supplied water. The laboratory also hosts a number of workshops that are internationally accredited. We cooperate with international organizations to ensure that our process is thorough.”

He said the laboratory collects samples of water and runs multiple tests on them to ensure that they are pure.

“The laboratory has multiple departments such as water quality, leakage, operation, customer complaints, transportation and modern networks. The laboratory operates 24 hours a day and is always ready to intervene whenever there is an alert of water pollution,” said Al-Ghamdi.

“We even built a center near Mina to ensure that the water supplied during the pilgrimage season is pure and healthy. We have inspectors in Makkah who send us samples on a daily basis. We issue reports of the status of water several times a day to the pertinent authorities,” said Al-Ghamdi.
