400,000 counterfeit products confiscated

DAMMAM – Inspectors from the Ministry of Commerce and Investment have seized 400,000 counterfeit products last week. The products include perfumes, cleansing sprays, used oils, electrical products and miscellaneous items, Al-Hayat daily reported. The ministry has intensified its inspection tours in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

Around 183,000 electrical products were confiscated last Friday in Riyadh because they did not conform to Saudi specifications. In addition, several brands of counterfeit cosmetics were seized. The inspectors raided a farm and seized large quantities of fake auto oil in addition to miscellaneous items that meant for distribution in the market. The inspectors made visits in different cities of Makkah region and closed down a small factory and seized 89,000 items including fake perfumes and cleansing products.

The inspectors confiscated a total of 100,000 fake light bulbs that did not conform to the Saudi specifications and raided 55 warehouses in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. They seized 24,000 fake cleansing products.

The inspectors had visited 58,714 businesses last year and revoked 56 licenses for businesses that did not comply with the pertinent laws and specifications. The inspectors visited 3,791 gas stations and double-checked the meters of gas pumps. Around five million fake products were confiscated and 1,884 samples were tested at specialized laboratories.
