JEDDAH — The Memon Welfare Society (MWS), under the banner of Memon Association Saudi Arabia (MASA), celebrated its 10th anniversary and World Memon Day here recently.
Leading members of the Memon community M. Yousuf Al-Maimani, M. Amin Al-Maimani, Sheikh Mohammed Luqman, Mohammed Habib Ullah and more than 100 guests attended the celebration.
The event started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Hafiz Mohammed Ahmed Makki. Hamd was presented by Ahmed Irfan Kolsawala and Naat by Jawed Kherani. Poet Zamurrad Saifi read out a poem about Memons.
Kolsawala, president MWS-MASA, welcomed all the guests and thanked all for attending the event.
Tayyab Moosani, secretary general, congratulated all on the 10th anniversary as well as the World Memon Day. He said, “Our community is known for welfare and charitable activities in world. The needy people have been benefiting throughout the world from our welfare services.”
He said the MWS-MASA has distributed food among Madrassa students in Makkah and Jeddah simultaneously. MASA has also distributed clothe pieces along with “tasbeeh and caps” among children of Madrassa. Few wheelchairs were also distributed. While globally, some damaged houses were being repaired and free medical camps being held.
Iqbal Advani, patron, emphasized on use of Memon language at all events of Memon community. He said if we do not speak Memon, then our children will also stop speaking the language.
Mubasser Azam and Shams uddin Altaf, not from the Memon community, also expressed their views on Memon Day and MWS activities.
Rashid Kasmani, joint secretary, thanked all guests, sponsors, Patrons Iqbal Advani, Mohammed Ismail Badi, Abdul Rahman Merchant, Shabir Patel, Abdul Kader Africawala, Siraj Adamjee, Abdul Qadir Teli, Jawed Kherani, Ahmed Kamal Makki and Sadiq Suratiya for their efforts to hold the event successfully.
Shawls were presented to office bearers and some dignitaries. The event concluded with cake cutting ceremony on Memon Day as well as 10th anniversary of MWS-MASA.
The Program was conducted by Jawed Kherani in Gujarati and Siraj Adamjee in Urdu.
