50 terror suspects from 11 countries nabbed in 10 days

JEDDAH — As many as 50 terror suspects belonging to 11 countries have been arrested during the past 10 days.

The arrested suspects include a Russian expatriate, the fourth Russian to be detained on charges related to terrorism.

Three Russian nationals were arrested earlier, according to the Nafethah electronic portal established by the Interior Ministry for detainees to communicate with their families.

It said a Lebanese national was arrested recently to join his three other compatriots who were nabbed in 2015, 2016 and 2017 respectively.

An Eritrean national was arrested on April 24, the first man from this Horn of Africa country to be held on terrorism charges.

A Canadian national has also been arrested raising the number of the detained Canadians to three. The two others were held separately in 2016 and 2017.

According to the Nafethah window, a national from Kyrgyzstan was recently detained to join another who was apprehended in 2016.

The 11 countries to which the 50 suspects belong are Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Canada, Eritrea, Lebanon and Russia.
