Saudi Gazette report

Jeddah — Gas stations and service centers have been divided into four categories depending on their location, area and facilities available as per some amended bylaws approved by Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Abdullatif Bin Abdul Malik Al-Asheikh.

The first category of gas stations and service centers are those located on highways covering an area of 10,000 square meters, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

The second category covers those located on highways covering an area of 6,000 square meters.

The third category covers those gas stations and service centers which are located in approved planned districts in cities and have an area of 3,000 square meters.

The fourth category covers those gas stations and service centers located in approved planned districts in cities and have an area of 2,000 square meters.

The amended bylaws specify that the distance between two gas stations on highways in the same direction should not be less than 50 kilometers.

On roads other than the highways the distance between two gas stations should not be less than 20 kilometers.

Gas stations should not make changes at the entry and exit points once the license has been granted.

Gas stations should have a distance of at least 25 meters from facilities like factories, schools, wedding halls, hospitals and malls.

The amended bylaws permit recreational and commercial activities at gas stations and workers’ accommodation that suits the area of the location.
