RIYADH — On Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. (18:30), the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces (RSADF) intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Iranian-backed Houthi militias from within Yemeni territories (specifically Saada Governorate) towards the Kingdom's territories, Saudi Press Agency quoted the official spokesman of the Joint Coalition Forces Command "Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen" Col. Turki Al-Malki as announcing.
He said that the missile, which was targeting the city of Jazan, was deliberately launched to target civilian and populated areas, adding that such a hostile action by Houthi militias backed by Iran, proves the Iranian regime’s continued involvement in supporting Houthi militias with qualitative capabilities, in a flagrant and explicit defiance and violation of UN resolutions 2216 and 2231.
Their goal is to threaten the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as the regional and international security, he said.
Al-Malki stressed that the launching of ballistic missiles towards densely populated cities and villages is a clear contravention of the international humanitarian law. — SPA
