Abeer group announces Rs.1m to Lini’s family

JEDDAH — Abeer Medical Group has announced a monetary aid of Rs. 10 lakh to the family of Lini Puthussery, the 31 year old nurse who died after being infected with Nipah virus while attending to the patients with the same infection. Dr. Ahmed Alungal, executive director of Abeer Medical Group, the healthcare organization which operates a chain of hospitals and medical centers in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries declared this assistance on behalf of Alungal Mohammed, AMG president. The declaration was made during a special health awareness session on Nipah virus organized at Abeer Medical Center, Sharafiyah, Jeddah.

“As a nurse, Lina was an epitome of virtue and dedication. She exemplified the statement ‘Nurse is an angel on the earth’. The pain of her loss is irretrievable. We are pleased to give this amount to her family whom she loved more than anything else in this world,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Dr. Ahmed Kabeer, internist in his awareness lecture, said that the Indian expats don’t need to remain anxious or panic over the present situation. “The rumors rife on the social media about Nipah virus are baseless and irrelevant. The timely interventions taken by the government of Kerala to curtail the outbreak are appropriate, and we are satisfied with such moves”, he commented.

The awareness lecture which detailed about the origin, transmission, symptoms, medication and prevention of Nipah virus was followed by an interactive session in which the questions posed by the attendees were answered by the doctors’ panel in the presence of Dr. Jemshith Ahmed, Vice President, and Dr. Akhil Rahman as well.

Workplace Wellness Program to tackle hypertension disease was organized at Abeer Medical Center, Sanaiyah, in Jeddah in connection with World Hypertension Day. More than 100 employees from the Industrial Area participated in this program, and did related health checkups.

Dr. Ismail Karam, internist, spoke about how cardiovascular system is badly affected with hypertension. He stressed on the importance of monitoring blood pressure levels on a regular basis, since the abnormality of the same causes hypertension, which may later culminate in the ill-health of heart.

Dr. Nadeem Tariq, internist, stated that eating a heart-healthy diet is important for managing blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart attack, heart disease, stroke and other diseases. “Maintain a healthy weight, be physically active, say no to tobacco and don’t drink alcohol,” he said.
