Saudi Gazette report

MADINAH
— The Prophet's Mosque has 17 muezzins who call for prayers five times a day from the "Mukabariyah", a place where they raise the adman and repeat after the imam so that all the worshipers in and outside the mosque will hear clearly.

The Mukabariyah is a place which is above the ground by about eight columns and is away from the dais by about five meters. It has a total area of 5x4 square meters.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Khashogji, the chief of the muezzins, said the Mukabariyah was last renovated about 36 years ago, Al-Riyad newspaper said.

He said every day three muezzins take turn to raise the adhan in sweet voices that lure the congregates to the mosque.

"The adhan in Ramadan gives a different feeling as it spreads faith, spirituality and serenity," he said.

Kashogji said the worshipers feel the depth of their faith when they see thousands of visitors going to the mosque to perform their prayers.

He said the sound amplifiers are tested before each prayer to make sure that they operate perfectly and are ready to transmit the sound.
