Washington — The head of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has thanked his counterparts in Saudi Arabia and its leadership for supporting the successful United Bid to host the 2026 World Cup.
In a video, US Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro said he thanked Saudi King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and his “good friend” Turki Al Al-Sheikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority.
“I would like to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the King, the Crown Prince and my good friend Turki Al-Asheikh for your tremendous support on the United Bid; my country the United States, which is working together with Canada and Mexico for the United Bid, for your advice and support,” said Cordeiro.
“We were victorious today in Moscow and we look forward to hosting the 2026 World Cup in North America and to receiving you and many of your fans and citizens in 2026,” he added.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada after FIFA’s congress voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to back the tri-nation joint bid for the tournament and leave Morocco to miss out for the fifth time. — Al Arabiya English
