MOSCOW — The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) said on Monday that its national soccer team landed safely in the Russian city of Rostov after what it described as a minor technical fault in one of the engines of the plane they were traveling in. “All the Saudi national team players are safe, after a scare following technical failure in one of the airplane engines that has just landed,” SAFF said in a statement on Twitter.

According to SAFF, all the Saudi national team players have arrived safely in Rostov-on-Don this afternoon to play against Uruguay, and currently are staying in their residence, and that the fire on the plane wings was merely accidental, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Videos shared on social media appeared to show an aircraft that posters identified as the Saudi team’s plane with its wing on fire while it was in the air. — SG/SPA
