RIYADH — The Special Penal Court in Riyadh on Monday started the trial of four Saudi nationals accused of joining Daesh and participating in terrorist activities financed by a woman.

According to the prosecution, the four suspects received SR800,000 from a woman named Umm Abdullah and had the support of terrorist Reema Al-Juraish. The accused planned suicide bombings and smuggled 100 rounds of explosives from Yemen to the Kingdom.

The main suspect in the case was charged with traveling to Yemen illegally and participating in terrorist activities there. He plotted to assassinate an intelligence agent, and smuggled explosives from Yemen to the Kingdom. He was also accused of receiving SR10,000 and giving it to a Daesh member. He received SR650,000 and a forged Syrian passport from Umm Abdullah.

The second defendant was accused of joining Daesh and participating in terrorist activities outside of the Kingdom, paying money to someone to help him get out of the country and travel to Syria, opening social media accounts in support of Daesh and marrying a foreigner illegally.

The third defendant had planned a suicide bombing, participated in terrorist activities outside the Kingdom and travelled to Pakistan with the intention of crossing into Afghanistan.

The fourth defendant received SR710,000 in installments to support his terrorist activities. He was also accused of obstructing justice by not reporting on someone he knew was traveling to Iraq to join Daesh.

The four men were also accused of forming a terrorist cell to execute more disruptive activities and to combine their resources.
