Riyadh — The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) has successfully restored more than 53,000 archaeological items with the help of digital registering in accordance with international standards for the registration and archiving of data relating to archaeological and heritage sites and antiques.

The Digital Archeology Project aims to document and register all sites, antiquities, heritage, historical monuments and urban heritage buildings in a comprehensive national digital registry linked to a multi-dimensional digital map, compatible with modern GIS techniques, digital databases, pictures and graphics.

SCTH Director General of Registration and Protection of Antiquities Dr. Naif Al-Qunour said that the new digital registration includes complete information about 32,000 national antiquities restored from abroad as well as about 22,000 national antiquities restored to the SCTH since the project was launched in 2011.
