JEDDAH -- There has been an all-round praise for the wise diplomacy of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman that led to the signing of the landmark Jeddah Agreement for Peace by President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki and Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali on Sunday.
Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimen, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), said in a press statement: “The Saudi leadership has been and continues to be acknowledged and appreciated by the countries of the region, which turn to the Kingdom in order to contain disputes, bridge gaps, and achieve peace, security and stability. Today we witnessed one of the successful models of Saudi mediation."
Welcoming the agreement, the United Arab Emirates valued efforts made by King Salman in establishing pillars of security, stability and prosperity in the region.
The UAE said in a statement that the Jeddah pact comes within the context of King Salman’s policy to strengthen stability in the region through a well-thought out vision that recognizes the vital and dynamic connection between the security of the Horn of Africa and that of the Arab World.
Commenting on the landmark peace agreement, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, said he was proud to attend the signing of this good, historic agreement, which will build bridges between brothers and bring peoples even more closer. “'It gives optimism to generations,” he stated.
Sheikh Abdullah praised the effective role played by the Saudi leadership, especially King Salman.
The Kingdom of Bahrain also hailed King Salman’s hosting of Jeddah agreement. In a statement, Bahrain affirmed that this step reflects Saudi Arabia’s pivotal and strategic role at the regional and global arenas.
“King Salman seeks to bring about peace and stability around the world.”
Bahrain supported the Saudi efforts in spreading peace and maintaining friendly international relations based on good-neighborliness and respect for international laws and charters.
Speaker of Arab Parliament Dr. Mishaal Al-Solami appreciated the great efforts exerted by King Salman in patronizing the peace process and hosting the historic summit between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Dr. Al-Solami said in a statement that the efforts of the King reinforced peace and stability between Ethiopia and Eritrea, affirming the important and pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia in maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
“The peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea signed today in Jeddah is a historic event that will contribute to strengthening security and stability in the region,” Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said on Twitter.
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Asheikh, president of the Shoura Council, highlighted the significance of the agreement in bringing about positive and fruitful relations that will benefit the two countries in particular and the Horn of Africa region in general, ending the state of war that continued between the two neighbors for over 20 years.
Sheikh Abdurahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, affirmed that the historic step of Saudi Arabia in hosting the tripartite summit between Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Eritrea under the patronage of King Salman and in the presence of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman is aimed at achieving reconciliation between the two neighbors.
He also highlighted the role of Saudi Arabia, which is an influential and leading regional heavyweight in bringing peace and security to the world in general and the Horn of Africa region in particular through fostering tolerance and brotherhood in addition to blocking outlets for terrorism, extremism and violence in all its forms and manifestations.
The Makkah-based Muslim World League also hailed the agreement, saying that this reiterates the Kingdom’s position, under King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, as a major pillar of world peace.
