MAKKAH — The Justice Ministry has announced that the number of the lawyers registered with it and accredited at Saudi courts was 5,496, including 332 women.
The ministry said the number of women lawyers increased by about 77 percent in 2018 over their number in 2017.
Licenses were granted to 147 women lawyers this year against 83 the previous year while the licenses granted to the men lawyers were 877 compared to 730 in the previous year.
It said the Judicial Training Institute (JTI) has held a number of training sessions to qualify lawyers for legal practice and obtain license. As many as 1,171 lawyers including 521 women benefitted from the sessions.
Justice Minister Walid bin Mohammed Al-Samaani has issued directives to enable women lawyers to obtain documentation license, which will enable them to do the notary public work. There are now 19 women lawyers with these licenses. Through its electronic gate, the ministry enables people to choose their lawyers in any city and communicate with them.
