OMAN — Omani movie "Popcorn" has been selected for the Sofia MENAR (Middle East and North Africa Region) Film Festival in Bulgaria.

The film festival, which will be held in January 2014, aims to promote movies of the Middle East and Africa region in Europe, according to albawaba.com.

"Popcorn" is the first movie from Oman selected for the festival. Director Maitham al Musawi said: "This is a very good news for me and my team. This is the first film from the sultanate to be screened at the festival, and we are extremely happy. The film shows the transition of a man from childhood to old age and uses several allegories."

Although the short film has received accolades from different film festivals in the region, it was not well-received by Omanis due to lack of dialogue. — SG
