JEDDAH — A court in Jeddah dismissed a lawsuit filed by a woman against her husband, who was accused of beating her in front of guests in a wedding hall in the city three years ago.

The court dismissed the case because the woman had returned to her husband’s home after the incident and lived with him for a long period without filing any complaint against him. She had also admitted that she received SR10,000 in compensation from her husband for abusing her.

The 50-year-old woman filed the lawsuit and presented a medical report proving injuries in the shoulders and hands she had sustained from the incident three years ago.

The Public Prosecution questioned the husband, who confirmed the incident but said it took place three years ago. He said he was a diabetes patient with mood swings, which led him to beat his wife in fit of anger and bad temper.

The husband said the matter was resolved peacefully and he had paid her SR10,000 in compensation, which she accepted.

He accused one of her relatives, who worked as a lawyer of persuading his wife to file the lawsuit against him.

The woman admitted before the public prosecution that she had accepted the money and had returned to her husband. But she said she returned because of her seven children and she did not file any lawsuit against him because she did not have anyone to follow up her case in court at that time.

The court after reviewing the case dropped the lawsuit.
