RIYADH — Bangladesh Embassy here organized the 4th Bangladesh Development Fair recently in a befitting manner with much festivity. Ambassador Golam Moshi inaugurated the fair at the Embassy premises. The fair showcased the remarkable development of many sectors of Bangladesh in the last ten years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The fairground was decorated with development posters, banners displaying socio-economic progress and infrastructural development including mega projects of Bangladesh.
In his speech Ambassador Moshi said, Bangladesh has become a role model of development under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. He added that Bangladesh has outstanding development stories in power, education, health, agriculture and other sectors including information technology-IT and has achieved almost 8% growth of GDP last year. Thanking the expatriate Bangladeshis for sending remittances to the country, the Ambassador said, “It is very important to inform people about the country’s development which will sensitize them on the development stories.”
Twelve stalls were installed in the development fair to demonstrate developments in different sectors. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Ten Initiatives to make Bangladesh hunger free and make it a middle income country were shown in the fair. Moreover information about Sustainable Development Goals, power production, Digital Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Satellite, Padma Bridge, Ruppur Nuclear Plant, Dhaka Metro Rail projects were also displayed in the fair.
Ambassador’s spouse Madame Syeda Gule Arju inaugurated the ‘women empowerment’ stall where different initiatives of Bangladesh government on women empowerment were displayed.
The passport and visa wing of the Embassy showed information regarding e-passport, which will start from next year. The labor wing provided different consular services including Expatriate Welfare Card in their stall. Bangladesh Airlines and Shonali Bank also showcased their services and recent development. Two Bangladeshi community schools also took part in the fair and displayed miniatures of mega projects.
A number of documentary on the achievements of Bangladesh were screened at the fair. A cultural show was arranged to commemorate the development fair. A small drama was performed on the development benefits by Riyadh Bangladesh Theater. Patriotic and different folk songs were also performed by renowned Bangladeshi singers of Riyadh.
Thousands of Bangladeshi expatriates including doctors, engineers and businessmen from Riyadh and adjacent cities of Saudi Arabia attended the fair. — SG
