ISTANBUL
— US President Donald Trump has said that he does not think the Saudis have betrayed him on the issue of the late Jamal Khashoggi.

Saudi Arabia said on last week that 18 people were arrested over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi at its consulate in Istanbul.

Khashoggi probe: Public Prosecutor ends Turkey visit

Saudi Arabia’s Public Prosecutor Sheikh Saud Al-Muajab was returning to the Kingdom after completing his 72-hour visit to Turkey as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

During the visit, he met high-ranking Turkish officials and inspected the Saudi consulate premises.

On Monday, Al-Muajab had an extensive meeting with Turkey’s Chief Public Prosecutor Irfan Fidan at the Istanbul Caglayan courthouse. He also held a second meeting with Fidan and visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Al-Muajab held talks overnight with Turkish intelligence officials, Turkey’s Demiroren news agency reported. It said Al-Muajab left his hotel shortly after midnight and went to the Istanbul regional offices of Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency (MIT).

According to observers, the visit of Al-Muajab will be a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the killing of Khashoggi.

Okaz has learnt from Turkish sources that the Saudi and Turkish sides have agreed to continue cooperation in the investigations.
