Lebanese mark 75th Independence Day

JEDDAH —
The Consulate General of Lebanon celebrated the 75th Independence day of Lebanon, here, on Thursday, by displaying the beauty of Lebanese culture and poetry.

During the evening several Lebanese students from Dar Jana School performed the “Dabka” a distinctive artistic Lebanese folkloric dances alongside the fascinating melody of Lebanese music, then Lebanese poet was showcased, finally, the guests enjoyed the flavor of the authentic Lebanese cuisines.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Jamal Balkhoyor, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Makkah Region branch, plus several government officials, consuls general, diplomats, journalists, and a mass attendance by Lebanese citizens, who live in and around Jeddah.

During his speech, Lebanese Consul General Ali Karanouh said that “Lebanon celebrates the Independence Day to appreciate the sacrifices made by the army and the martyrs furthermore to renew its commitment to the independence believing in its values.”

Also Karanouh thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its efforts in supporting Lebanon in all the events, during war to stop it and attain peace, and during peace times to rebuild the country and achieve economic growth, plus for supporting the stability of Lebanon and its solidarity, army, and institutions.

Karanouh believes that Lebanon can play a major role in achieving the Saudi Vision 2030 through the various capabilities, expertise, and cadres of Lebanon.

The Independence Day of Lebanon is considered the state’s national day, celebrated each year on Nov. 22 to commemorate the end of the French Mandate over Lebanon in 1943, that lasted for 23 years, which started in 1920 after the First World War and the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

Later on, the political system of modern Lebanon was established by an agreement between the two most famous Christian and Muslim leaders, Khouri, and Al-Solh in 1943, and the then agreement was named the National Pact.

In addition, in 1945 Lebanon joined the Arab League and became a founding member of the United Nations moreover, in 1946, the last remaining French troops withdrew from the country.

Hence Nov. 22 is an important day for the Lebanese nation, it is the day when they celebrate their freedom, solidarity, and independence.
