JEDDAH
— The Consulate General of the United Arab of Emirates marked the 47th national day at a hotel here on Tuesday.

This national ceremony gathered the diplomatic community alongside many Saudi and Emirati guests to celebrate 47 years of UAE unity, solidarity, and prosperity.

During the evening UAE Consul General Arif Ali Al Nuaimi emphasized upon the strength of the brotherly Saudi-Emirati ties and addressed the importance of this unification day. He noted that the Emirates now celebrate the year of Zayed in commemoration to the centenary to the birth of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE.

On Dec. 2, 1971, six of the seven emirates formed a federal unification under the name of the United Arab Emirates. The unified Emirates were Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al-Quwain, Ajman, and Fujairah, headed by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the federation’s first president.

Following this event, on 1972, Ras Al-Khaimah joined the union as the seventh Emirate.

Many huge celebrations are held across the UAE each year to commemorate the memory of this unification day, that highlights the solidarity of the Emirati people.

It must be noted that Saudi Arabia shares the joy and celebrates this day with the Emiratis. This year the major roundabouts of Jeddah were filled with the flags of Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
