The Saudi Space Authority (SSA), which was set up recently by the higher authorities, will specialize in developing the infrastructure for the space sector.

This will include building ground stations, space ships and setting up semi-orbital space voyages, in addition to organizing activities related to space missions and training and supporting national cadres in space sciences.

The SSA aims to develop strategies that guarantee the protection of the Kingdom’s interests and gains, boost space security and encourage and stimulate research.

The authority will specialize in developing satellite systems for telecommunications and collecting aerial data on environment, drawing up space-related plans, policies and programs for carrying out the National Strategy for Space.

According to SSA regulations, the authority’s responsibilities include determining locations, movement and time as well as developing technologies and related services for launching space shuttles. The authority will enhance space security through constant monitoring and follow-up and issue early warnings on space debris in cooperation with similar agencies in other countries as well as international organizations.
