Houthi drone, ballistic missile intercepted

RIYADH – The Saudi-led Coalition forces confirmed an Iranian-made Houthi drone was intercepted and destroyed over the southern Saudi city of Abha in Asir region on Wednesday.

Col. Turki Al-Maliki, the coalition’s spokesperson, said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency that the Saudi Royal Air Forces spotted an unidentified object moving towards civilian areas in the city of Abha at 3:42 pm. According to the spokesperson, an examination of the drone’s debris showed it to be Iranian-made.

Meanwhile, a ballistic missile targeting the southern city of Khamis Mushayt in Asir region was also intercepted and destroyed on Wednesday. The Saudi Air Defense Forces spotted the missile at 2 pm on Wednesday and used defense systems to intercept the missile before it hit the city. Some fragments of the missile landed on a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. No injuries were reported in the attack. -- SG/SPA
