RIYADH — Mediterranean and Gulf Cooperative Insurance Company (Medgulf) won the Saudi Re Insurance Cricket League 2019, defeating a spirited Alinma Tokio Marine Company (ATMC).
The star of the final was Mohammed Mansoor whose performance with both bat and ball enabled Medgulf to overcome a tough challenge from ATMC in the last over.
Saudi Re Insurance Cricket League featured 8 insurance companies operating in Saudi Arabia. The league was organized by Raza Haider (Alinma Tokio Marine) and sponsored by Saudi Re.
The 8 teams were divided into two pools of four sides each. Pool Green included Alinma Tokio Marine, Metlife AIG ANB, Saudi Re and AXA Cooperative Insurance, while Pool Red had Amana Cooperative, Medgulf, Walaa Cooperative and the team of Actuaries. The event was held at Country Club Ground Riyadh.
In the first semifinal, Alinma Tokio Marine defeated Team Actuaries in a scintillating encounter.
Alinma Tokio Marine 117-3 in 8 overs (Saadat 55 off 21 balls and Raza Haider 31 off 15 balls). Team Actuaries 94-5 in 8 overs (Mohammed Asif 2-24 in 2 overs).
In the second semifinal, Medgulf downed Metlife AIG ANB.
Medgulf 135-2 in 8.0 overs (Mohammed Mansoor 86 off 24 balls). Metlife AIG ANB 93-2 in 8 overs (Waqas 30 off 13 balls).
In the final, Alinma Tokio Marine batted first and made 88-6 in 8 overs (Saadat Khan 48 off 21 balls and Mansoor 2-10 in 2 overs).
In reply, Medgulf made 89-3 in 7.2 overs (Mansoor 29 off 12 balls and Saadat Khan 2-11 in 2 overs).
Various awards were given with Mohammed Mansoor of Medgulf sweeping the Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Player of the Tournament prizes. Ali Salar of Team Actuaries received the Innings of the Tournament award for his brilliant century. Imran Hashim of Medgulf won the Bowling Spell of the Tournament for his hat trick. The award for Best All-round Performance went to Saadat Khan of Alinma Tokio Marine and the Best Catch award was taken by Raja Arif of Saudi Re.
Raza Haider, chief organizer and captain of Alinma Tokio Marine, thanked all the teams for their participation and putting on a great show. He thanked Saudi Re for patronizing the event and congratulated champion team Medgulf. — SG
