JEDDAH –
The Ministry of Transport has approved new regulations to compensate the erstwhile shuttle service operators in Jeddah and Riyadh.

The bus owners can choose one of the four options. They can hand over the vehicle to the traffic department and receive SR60,000 in compensation or can sell it as scrap in which case the owner of the bus will not have to pay any fines or outstanding fees. They can also export the vehicle outside the Kingdom without renewing the registration and paying any overdue or convert the vehicle for private use after altering the registration category as a transport vehicle.

The new regulations stipulate that owners of all buses should choose one of the four options within 90 days and approach the traffic department in Jeddah or Riyadh. Those who do not comply will risk having their buses impounded by traffic cops.
