Saudi weightlifter wins gold medal in Las Vegas

RIYADH —
Saudi Arabia’s Ali Al-Othman has won gold medal in the 89kg category in the Under 17 Youth Weightlifting World Championships in Las Vegas.

Othman emerged first place winner in the championship, which sees the participation of 98 weightlifters representing 34 countries.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman recently honored Othman with King Abdulaziz Medal of the second class for winning the bronze at the Third Olympic Games for Youth held in Argentina.

President of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation Mohammed Al-Harbi praised the efforts of members of the Saudi Weightlifting Federation and the administrative and technical bodies of the Saudi teams for this remarkable achievement. Al-Othman expressed happiness over the achievement, which is the first of its kind for Saudi Arabia.

“The honor of winning King Abdulaziz Medal, is an incentive for every athlete to achieve the best results in international forums,” he said in remarks to the Saudi Press Agency following the victory.
