Yanbu flower festival captivates diplomats

When foreign diplomats based in Jeddah visited the flower festival organized by the Royal Commission for Yanbu.

Foreign diplomats based in Jeddah visited the spectacular flower show amid pleasant weather in the industrial city of Yanbu.

The tour was organized by Royal Commission for Yanbu in with coordination with the Foreign Ministry’s Makkah region branch.

The delegation was received by CEO of Royal Commission in Yanbu Adnan A. Al-Alouni who briefed the diplomats about the commission’s efforts in maintaining environment and introducing the concept of floriculture to the public.

The diplomats accompanied by their families were taken on a tour of various sections of the flower gardens besides the rare birds section.

“It was amazing to witness such floriculture in Saudi Arabia,” commented Sang-Kyoun Lee, consul general of South Korea, who was part of the delegation.

He told Saudi Gazette that he was impressed with flower show that exhibited the determination of the Saudi people.

The 13th flower and garden festival organized by Royal Commission’s Operation and Maintenance Division has been attracting huge crowds. The visitors included large numbers of expatriates and their families.

The event is held during the spring season every year. This year the festival is themed as «the Flower Eye».

The organizers are using the festival to create awareness about floriculture among the people of the Kingdom.

Saleh Abdullah Zahrani, chairman of the organizing committee, said the Royal Commission wanted to turn the flower and gardening festival into calendar event for the people not only in the region but all over the Kingdom on a par with the prestigious Janadriyah Festival in Riyadh.

The flower show entered the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s largest flower carpet and the largest flower hill in 2014 and 2017 respectively.
