JEDDAH — Under the support of Princess Luluwah Alfaisal, Effat University launched the fourth English and Translation Conference, under the title: “ Cultural Vibrancy: Literature, Translation Studies and Linguistics and their Current Trends and Future Visions “, at university’s library and cultural museum on Wednesday.

The interdisciplinary conference discussed the new translation trends and their impact, and the researchers’ perception and their future prediction and vision of the writings and translated editions.

The program started with a welcoming speech by Dr. Sanna Dhahir, dean of Effat’s College of Humanities, in which she said: “The new trends in translation have opened new doors for authors and translators, and a new understanding for readers and insiders.”

She added: “As academics and experts, we are always looking for different aspects of translation and literature. They help us give new meanings to the recipient. This helps to give a better or closer image of the original text.”

The keynote speaker was Dr. Mustapha Taibi, an associate professor in interpreting and translation at Western Sydney University, and the editor-in-chief of Translation & Interpreting: The International Journal of Translation and Interpreting Research.

Two paper sessions, presented by students and academics from local and international institutions, had interesting titles such as “New Trends in Translation, Interpreting and Language” and “New Trends in Literary Studies, Literary Translation and Criticism”.

The conference concluded with a discussion and informative answers, and the honoring of the speakers and participants. — SG
