Hareed festival kicks off in Hisais bay

April 27, 2019

Emir of Jazan Prince Mohammed Bin Nasser gave the go ahead for the start of the 16th annual fishing festival in Al-Hisais bay on Farasan islands on Friday. The Hareed Festival has become a key annual event that lures both locals and tourists to the region. Hareed (Arabic for parrotfish) is a delicious type of fish, which is also called “sea parrot” by locals for its considerable facial similarities to the parrot. This type of fish comes into the shallow parts of the coast and locals celebrate their arrival during April and May each year. — SPA
