Saudi police arrest man who harassed young woman in Al-Khobar town

DAMMAM — Police have arrested a man who allegedly harassed a young woman in her car near a cafe complex in the Eastern Province town of Al-Khobar.

Attorney General Saud Al-Moajab had ordered that the man be arrested and brought to justice.

The Public Prosecution's monitoring unit has seen a video clip that went viral on social media showing the man harassing the woman.

The video showed the woman threatening to take the man to the law unless he stopped harassing her.

The man did not acquiesce and continued harassing the unidentified woman, who was able to film the incident and post the clip on social media.

The Public Prosecution the man's action constituted sexual harassment, which is a crime punishable under the law.

After the video went viral, the young man tried to change his looks by shaving off his beard but despite that the police were able to track him down.

Meanwhile, statistics show that incidence of harassment has drastically come down in the country from 708 cases in 2018 to 579 this year.

Informed sources attributed this drop to the severe punishments applied on people who were convicted of such crimes.
